SUMMARY:Pasta + Boards Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A new “working lunch” series on Fridays only. I’m excited to welcome my good friend and amazing cooking instructor\, Kate Solomon to Slip Studio for a Pasta Lunch.\n \nWe’ll start off by talking all about pasta.  We’ll go over all of the classic Italian shapes\, plus some lesser-known ones.  Kate will teach you how to knead and roll fresh pasta by hand—no machines required. We’ll make classic shapes like orecchiette and cavatelli\, talking through technique and texture.  Pasta Rigate – ridged pasta is used for holding onto thick sauces\, like meat ragu and cream-based sauces.  \n \nWe’ll then settle into making our own pasta texture boards using slabs of leather-hard brown stoneware clay.  Ariella will walk you through carving and shaping\, creating your own unique board.  She will then slowly dry your boards\, fire and glaze them\, ready for pick-up 4-6 weeks later.\n \nAnd finally\, we’ll all sit down for a delicious pasta lunch catered by Kate; pasta with two sauces\, salad\, and drinks.  \n \n\nMaterials\, tools\, clay\, and instruction are all included – plus a delicious sit-down lunch:)\n

She will also add rubber feet to your boards so that they lie flat and do not scratch the surface of your table. \nA curated selection of wine\, cheese\, and nibbles will accompany your evening for a complete night out! \nOur studio is small\, and space is limited to a maximum of 12 guests (unless otherwise specified). \nParking is free and plentiful. Bathrooms are clean and across the hall. Please come dressed and ready to get your hands and maybe even your clothes a little dirty. \nPlease arrive on time so that we can start the project with enough time for completion. If guests arrive more than 30 minutes after the start time\, they may be unable to finish their project. Ariella will do her best to accommodate for lateness and skill level\, repairing work when she can to ensure the highest likelihood of survival through the kiln process. \nWorkshops & Family Clay Date cancellation and refund policy: 50% refund with written cancellation up to 1 week before the workshop. Cancellations received less than 1 week before will not be refunded. Rescheduling due to illness is permitted only once. \nPLEASE NOTE: There are NO guarantees in pottery! \nWhile working in clay is calming\, pottery comes with many unknowns. Pottery is unpredictable and sometimes unforgiving. While Ariella will do her best to walk you through each step of the process\, sometimes cracks and issues present themselves along the way. Either in the soft and malleable stage\, or as the piece dries and hardens\, and even into the bisqueware stage\, clay moves and shifts. Even the best potters cannot predict the outcome\, so please keep this in mind! Working in clay is meditative and gratifying; however\, it is also humbling\, as there are many factors out of our control.  This is the magic of ceramics- learning to let go and allowing for the process to guide you\, and accepting that we are not always in control. This is the beauty of clay.  So enjoy the workshop\, class\, or private event\, and remember that the experience IS the best part of pottery!  The final product is just the icing on the cake:). \n\nJoin us at our White Plains pottery studio for a unique Westchester night out. Our Charcuterie Board workshop is a favorite for Scarsdale and Harrison residents looking for a creative\, social way to unplug. Includes wine\, cheese\, and all the tools to make your own heirloom-quality stoneware serving board.

SUMMARY:Handbuild Your Own Berry Bowl
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a date night or a mom’s night out?  This is a casual workshop\, no experience necessary!  Bring your creativity and your friends for a mindful evening and a chance to unplug.  \nHandbuild your own berry bowl out of brown stoneware clay.  Summer is around the corner\, and it’s time to get ready for your market strawberries\, blueberries\, and blackberries. A custom berry bowl with drainage holes is the cutest summer addition to your kitchen table! \nMake Your Own Berry Bowl Workshop – Wed March 4th from 7-9pm. \nThis workshop is sponsored by Elan Transfers. Elan Transfers offers a vibrant collection of high-quality\, artist-designed underglaze decals created specifically for today’s ceramic artists.  In 2018\, Leigh Anne began collaborating with graphic designers and fellow artists to develop a line of transfers that reflect the creativity and diversity of the modern ceramic community. Today\, Elan Transfers is proud to be the leading source for contemporary underglaze decals\, offering over 400 unique designs in a wide range of colors and styles. \nThe Process: \n\nLearn how to roll a perfect slab of clay\nCut out the template with precision\nLearn how to use transfer sheets with minimal bleeding\nAttach your sides by scoring and slipping the clay for secure attachments\, including a foot\nCustomize your berry bowl with stamps and cut-outs\nAll materials\, clay\, and tools are included \nThis workshop will last 2-2 1/2 hours\n\nYour berry bowls will dry slowly\, then get fired and glazed\, ready for pick-up 4-6 weeks later. \nA curated selection of drinks and snacks will be provided for a complete night out!
