SUMMARY:A Taste of Indonesia with Selvia Tjandra-Stothers - July 22nd
DESCRIPTION:Come to Slip Studio and be transported to Java\, Indonesia\, for an evening of tasting and learning.  Selvia Tjandra-Stothers will guide us through a typical array of Indonesian produce\, fresh fruit\, and vegetables found at H Mart.  You know\, the ones you don’t know what to do with?!  Selvia will talk about each one and explain how best to use fresh Asian produce in your kitchen.\n \nThen\, we will settle into the studio for a cooking demo and dinner – Lemper Ayam\, sticky rice with coconut chicken wrapped in banana leaves and Putu Ayu\, steamed pandan cake with grated coconut.  Selvia will demonstrate and teach\, we will ask and learn (how to roll Lemper Ayam)\, and taste (both dishes). It is guaranteed to be a delightful and delicious evening!\n \nThis event is alcohol-free and open to anyone 16+.\nTickets must be purchased beforehand and space is limited.\nWednesday\, July 22nd from 7-9 pm \nSelvia Tjandra-Stothers – @mixingbowlmamas\nBorn and raised in Indonesia\, Selvia brings the rich flavors\, traditions\, and storytelling of Southeast Asian cuisine into every dessert she creates. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your fiber arts skills\, this class will guide you through the techniques of weaving in the round—from setting up your hoop loom to creating textured\, layered designs using a variety of yarns and fibers. You’ll learn: How to warp a circular loomBasic and decorative weaving stitchesColor blending and textural techniquesTips for finishing and displaying your pieceAll materials are provided\, including a hoop loom\, a curated selection of yarns\, and weaving tools. By the end of the session\, you’ll leave with your own completed circular weaving and the skills to keep creating at home. Come and enjoy a relaxing and creative atmosphere while exploring a new dimension of weaving! Saturday\, August 8th\, from 10 am -1 pm Tea\, coffee\, and sparkling water will be provided. Bring a snack! ***** Courtney Salerno is a teacher and fiber artist living in the Hudson Valley\, NY.  She began weaving in 2016 and creates in her home studio on handmade frame looms.  She is mostly self-taught and experiments with a variety of fibers\, including cotton rope\, yarn\, wool roving\, hand-dyed ribbons\, and recycled materials.  Courtney has shown several pieces in galleries throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.  She also teaches beginning frame loom weaving and weaving in the round classes in the tristate area.
