  • Description

Discover the mesmerizing art of Nerikomi at Slip Studio in White Plains. We are thrilled to welcome guest artist David Jo from Flint & Marble for this specialized colored clay pottery workshop.

Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese decorative technique that involves layering, stacking, and slicing colored clays to create intricate, "built-in" patterns that run all the way through the ceramic form.

The Workshop Experience:

  • Pattern Building: Learn how to build and compress "canes" or blocks of layered colored clay to create geometric or organic designs.

  • The Reveal: Master the precision slicing technique used to uncover beautiful cross-section patterns.

  • Functional Form: Apply your patterned slices to a simple slab-built form to create a one-of-a-kind functional piece, such as a tray or dish.

  • Expert Guidance: David Jo will share his signature process and help you navigate the "happy accidents" and intentional designs of colored clay handbuilding.

Details:

  • Beginner-Friendly: No prior experience with Nerikomi or pottery is required!

  • Materials Included: All premium colored clays, specialized tools, and professional kiln firing are provided.

  • Pickup: Your finished pieces will be glazed and ready for pickup at our White Plains studio in 4–6 weeks.

This session features a curated seasonal color palette selected by David. Join us for a creative morning of precision and pattern-making!
