Slip Studio is a collaborative ceramic studio offering studio space and firing services for clay artists located in White Plains, NY. We have a limited number of memberships available.  Prospective members should apply through our website, providing detailed information about their work and clay experience. 

Memberships:

All members will have access to our studio from 10am to 9pm daily. Member time slots: 10am-1pm, 2-5pm, 6-9pm. Membership is for experienced clay artists only. If you’re just starting out your clay journey, head to our classes page. If you’re interested in membership you will be asked to follow these steps:

  • Submit your application (google form) through our website.
  • Schedule an interview & tour with Ariella
  • Sign a membership agreement and pay the first month’s fees + $100 security deposit
  • Agree to a minimum 2 month commitment. 
  • All clay, glaze, and firing materials MUST be pre approved before you start to work.
  • Cancellation with a minimum of 30 days written notice. 

Monthly Memberships Fees:

  • Fire & Glaze $100/ month + firing fees
  • Big Red Shelf $250/month + firing fees
  • Resident Artist $395/month + firing fees

Membership fees will be automatically charged on a monthly basis via our online system. Members will need to create a username/password to log into their account and will manage their account online.

Additional Costs:

  • $50/ monthly per additional storage shelf
  • $250/ full kiln rental firing (Skutt KMT 1027-3)
  • Clay available for purchase

Firing Fees:

Firing fees are payed directly through our member portal. Members will need to create a username/password to log into their account and will upload dimensions/images of their work to be submitted for firing.

  • Bisque (cone 04) … 4cents per cubic inch
  • Luster & Decals … 4 cents per cubic inch
  • Glaze (cone 6) … 6 cents per cubic inch

Firing Schedule:

Firing communications will take place through What’s App group chat.

  • Weekly Bisque (cone 04) & Glaze (cone 6) firings (Skutt electric kiln)
  • Monthly Luster & Decal firings (cone 017/018). Lustering must be done off premises.

Studio Use:

Slip Studio membership includes access to our studio tools, equipment and for firing finished pieces. We offer regular weekly firings in a small community environment. All members must abide by the terms of use and show respect for others & their work, including cleaning up after themselves and keeping a tiny workspace. All clay and glazes must be pre-approved for firing to cone 6 in an electric kiln. Commercial glazes must be tested before use, using slab trays to catch drippings. A small number of studio glazes will be available for use. Studio tools, brushes, sponges, and other will be available for use during glazing sessions.

Slip Studio is a community studio. We do our best to maintain a standard that ensures the best possible outcome for everyone, however Slip Studio is not responsible for broken pieces or mishaps that may occur in the studio or in the firing process. Best practices for firing must be maintained by all members.

Studio Time Scheduling: 

Fire & Glaze members will have access to the studio for glazing and firing only.  F&G members will be able to drop off greenware at any time during our business hours. Glazing appointments will be booked through our portal, 10am to 9pm daily. Time slots: 10am-1pm, 2-5pm, 6-9pm. Please do not show up outside of your booked time slot, members who arrive without an appointment MAY be refused due to lack of studio space.

Big Red Shelf members will book their make and glaze appointments through our members portal, 10am to 9pm daily. Time slots: 10am-1pm, 2-5pm, 6-9pm. Please do not show up outside of your booked time slot, members who arrive without an appointment MAY be refused due to lack of studio space.

Resident Artist members will have a studio key to come and go as they wish, 10am to 9pm daily.
