Snow Day Feature

Greetings from snowy New York!

I’ve been meaning to send a newsletter for ages, so what better day than a snow day to catch up on things!

I’ve added a whole bunch of new workshops to the winter calendar from February until the last week of March. Thinking up fun workshop ideas and hosting newbie potters has been such a pleasure for me. Workshops are where my love of food and pottery come together, and I just love creating these experiences. I am also learning SO much each time I host, so please bear with me as I’m trying to deliver a BIG project in 2 hours. I think workshops are a lot of fun- tell me what you think, I’d love to hear from you!

Speaking of workshops… I’m so touched and excited that they’ve been well received and have been SELLING OUT quickly! Thank you for coming, and please book your spot if you see something you like. My studio is small, and space is limited to 12 students!

Winter session is now in full swing, and I’m happy to say my weekly classes are getting fuller with each session:). The wall extruder is IN, and we’re having fun learning how to use this GIANT playdough machine!

Spring session is right around the corner, and I’ve started putting together my spring calendar and summer camp schedule. I’ve also decided to reduce enrollment to 6 students for weekly classes, so that we have enough room to spread out.

Spring session runs for 9 weeks from April 15th to June 11th. I figure by mid-June we’ll be well into end-of-school-year mayhem, so who has time for pottery?! Registration for the spring session opens March 2nd.

New workshops are now live!

Slip Studio updates:

I’ve been working hard getting the studio into shape for so many students and members to come through. Unlike my home studio, everything needs “a place”, it needs to be cleaned and replaced, organized and labeled. My friend Steph was gracious enough to teach me the basics of mixing glazes, so that’s what I’ve been doing… mixing and learning and testing new colors, but boy… does all this take a shit-ton of time?! lol

Being a potter is one thing and being a teacher is another, but running a studio has taught me that I know very little and there is always MORE stuff to do!! Handbuilding creates a ton of reclaim, and so I’m learning how to manage, mix, and wedge everyone else’s reclaim. Now I understand where the pug mill comes into play!!

Seriously, I’m learning so much, and I really love that. Even though I’m not making as much as I’d like, I’m taking pleasure in the business side of things and using all the things I’ve learned along the way. Building things is FUN:)

Winter Classes are in full swing! Registration for spring session opens March 2nd.

Memberships are available for clay artists who work from home and are looking for community and kiln access. In addition to glazing and firing, Slip Studio offers monthly Member Meet-ups, a get-together for members to make, connect, and share ideas in the studio. Our first Member Meet-up is Friday, Jan 30th, from 12-2 pm. Check the calendar on the website for upcoming dates.

I had SO much fun creating the Matcha Workshop with Naoko from Cream Bomb NYC, it reminded me how much I love to learn about FOOD! I’m really excited about the upcoming collab on extra virgin olive oil with Tamara from Agape Premium. If you’re free, snag your spot (if there are any left?!).

Is it too late ot wish you a Happy New Year? Stay warm and happy:)
