Looking for a date night or a mom's night out?  This is a casual workshop, no experience necessary!  Bring your creativity and your friends for a mindful evening and a chance to unplug. 

Handbuild Your Own Matcha Bowl (Chawan) out of brown stoneware clay while sipping matcha and enjoying delicious Japanese cream puffs by Cream Bomb NYC. We'll make matcha bowls large enough to whisk and pour your matcha - measuring around 4-5" wide.

Immerse yourself in the mindful intersection of Japanese culture, tea, and clay at Slip Studio. Join our Matcha Bowl Workshop and come into the studio to make your own matcha bowl out of brown stoneware clay.  While you create, enjoy an iced matcha latte and delicious Japanese cream puffs from Cream Bomb NYC. 

The Creative Journey:

  • Philosophy: More than just a vessel, the Chawan represents wabi-sabi—finding beauty in unique, organic imperfections. We focus on heart and soul rather than machine-made perfection
  • Construction: Using the coil-building method, you’ll create a 5" wide bowl with walls thick enough to retain heat, but a base wide enough for vigorous, frothy whisking
  • Function: Learn to attach a sturdy base and foot, and craft a tapered rim or spout for the perfect sip or pour

Workshop Highlights:

  • All materials, clay, tools, and professional glaze firing are included
  • Matcha demonstration, tasting, and Japanese cream puffs provided
  • Your bowls will be ready for pickup at the studio 4–6 weeks later

    Join us for a special Kintsugi workshop led by Art Therapist Tara DeLuca. 

    Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. If a bowl is broken, rather than discarding the pieces, the fragments are put back together, and the cracks are adorned with gold. There are no attempts to hide the damage; instead, it is highlighted. This practice has come to represent the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection!

    A modern Kintsugi approach:

    David Jo from Flint & Marble is our guest artist for this special Nerikomi workshop.

    This hands-on class introducing students to Nerikomi, a decorative hand building technique using layered and patterned colored clay. Students will learn how to build and slice patterned clay blocks and apply them to a simple slab-built form, resulting in a one-of-a-kind functional piece. The class is beginner-friendly and open to all experience levels.
