- Description
David Jo from Flint & Marble is our guest artist for this special Nerikomi workshop.
Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese decorative technique that involves layering, stacking, and slicing colored clays to create intricate, "built-in" patterns that run all the way through the ceramic form.
The Workshop Experience:
- Learn how to build and compress "canes" or blocks of layered colored clay to create geometric or organic designs.
- Master precision slicing technique used to uncover beautiful cross-section patterns.
- Apply your patterned slices to a simple slab-built form to create a one-of-a-kind functional piece, such as a tray or catch-all dish.
- David will share his signature process and help you navigate the "happy accidents" and intentional designs of colored clay handbuilding.
The Details:
- Beginner-Friendly: No prior pottery experience required!
- Materials Included: All premium colored clays, specialized tools, and firing fees included
- Pickup: Your finished pieces will be glazed and ready for pickup 4–6 weeks later
This session features a curated seasonal color palette selected by David.
