All Studio Offerings

Slip Studio offers weekly classes, wokshops, private events and memberships for ceramic artists!

Each week, we will develop new hand-building skills and explore a variety of surface decorating techniques.

Work at your own pace and bring your own creativity and inspiration. Your projects will carry over from week to week, as you learn about the different stages in pottery.

By the end of each session, you will walk away with several glazed and finished pieces, plus the experience of creating something out of clay with your hands.

Class Details:

  • Classes meet once a week
  • Small and intimate class size, 8 students max
  • Guided projects plus time to explore your own ideas
  • Full studio access, including slab roller, wall extruder, templates, slump/hump molds, and studio tools
  • Make up missed classes (during the scheduled session), every afternoon from 2-5 pm
  • Included in your class fee: clay (brown and white stoneware), underglazes, colored slips, commercial glazes, and studio-made glazes
  • Additional firing fees of 8 cents per cubic inch for all pieces made during class time, paid as you go online
  • Stocked kitchen includes tea, coffee, and sparkling waters

  • Hand building in Clay - Tuesday pm

    This is a project-based class for beginners and intermediate artists.  Each week, we will focus on a particular technique in handbuilding and surface decoration, creating unique pieces for your home and table. Classes run for 3 hours and allow students to develop their own projects, carrying them over from week to week.

    Fall I session runs from September 7th - October 30th 6pm - 9pm

    Fall II session runs from November 3rd - Dec 18th (no class Thanksgiving week)

  • Beginner Hand building - Wednesday am

Explore different clay building techniques: coil building, slab rolling, using hump/slump molds, and wall extruder.

    If you're familiar with basic handbuilding techniques but interested in learning more, this class is for you.  Work on more complex projects with closer attention to detail, construction, and surface decoration.  This class is an open studio format, explore your own projects with personalized attention and support. Full studio access, including all tools, slab roller, extruder, and molds, as well as clay, slips, and underglazes.

    Nerikomi (also known as neriage) is a Japanese decorative pottery technique that involves layering, stacking, and folding colored clays to build intricate patterns.

    David Jo from Flint and Marble will be teaching this class.

  • Field Trip to Bobo's Farm - Aug 30th

    Join me on a very special field trip to Bobo's Farm in New Paltz, NY. You may have seen the viral videos... if you haven't, search it up!

    Come and enjoy an authentic Northeast-style Chinese farmhouse meal including a giant lamb roast in upstate New York. We'll be organizing it all, so all you have to do is save the date and buy a ticket! We reserved the YURT for only 24 guests.

    This is a whole day affair from 11am- 4pm. Bring some games and cards, I hear karaoke is definitely on the table.... BYOB. There will be PLENTY of authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. Once you sign-up, I'll send recommendations for local craft breweries and distilleries to hit on the way..

  • A Taste of Indonesia with Selvia Tjandra-Stothers

    $125.00
    Saturday, Oct 17th from 7-9pm

    Come to Slip Studio and be transported to Java, Indonesia, for an evening of tasting and learning. Selvia Tjandra-Stothers will guide us through a typical array of Indonesian produce, fresh fruit, and vegetables found at H Mart. You know, the ones you don’t know what to do with?!  Selvia will talk about each one and explain how best to use fresh Asian produce in your kitchen.

    Then, we will settle into the studio for a cooking demo and dinner - Lemper Ayam, sticky rice with coconut chicken wrapped in banana leaves and Putu Ayu, steamed pandan cake with grated coconut. Selvia will demonstrate and teach, we will ask and learn (how to roll Lemper Ayam), and taste (both dishes). It is guaranteed to be a delightful and delicious evening!

    This event is alcohol-free and open to anyone 16+.
    Tickets must be purchased beforehand and space is limited.
