  • Description

Elevate your dining table with a custom-crafted ceramic butter dish, handmade by you at Slip Studio in White Plains. Join us for a comprehensive two-day pottery workshop where you will learn to construct and decorate a professional-grade, functional piece of tableware.

This workshop is perfect for those who want to dive deeper into handbuilding techniques using premium white stoneware clay.

The Two-Day Experience:

  • Day 1: Construction: Master the art of rolling perfect slabs and using coil construction. Learn professional techniques for attaching corners and seams to ensure a flawless, durable design. Add a custom handle or unique features to your lid and base plate.

  • Day 2: Decoration & Personalization: Once your piece is leather-hard, return to finalize the details. Customize your dish using our palette of vibrant underglazes to match your kitchen's aesthetic.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Professional Materials: All white stoneware clay, tools, and professional kiln firing are included.

  • Skill Building: Great for beginners and those looking to improve their slab-building and finishing skills.

  • Logistics: Each session lasts 2.5 hours. Your finished pieces will be fired, glazed, and ready for pickup at our White Plains studio in 4–6 weeks.

Tea, coffee, and sparkling water are provided—feel free to bring a snack to keep your creative energy up!

Studio Logistics & Policies

  • Space is Limited: Our studio is intimate; workshops are capped at 12 guests unless otherwise specified.

  • Arrival: Please arrive on time. To ensure everyone completes their project, guests arriving more than 30 minutes late may be unable to finish. Ariella will do her best to accommodate and assist with repairs to ensure your work survives the kiln.

  • Dress Code: Please come dressed to get your hands (and potentially your clothes) a little dirty!

  • Amenities: Parking is free and plentiful. Clean restrooms are located just across the hall.

Cancellations & Refunds

  • Policy: A 50% refund is available with written cancellation up to 1 week before the workshop. Cancellations made less than 1 week prior are non-refundable.

  • Rescheduling: Rescheduling due to illness is permitted once.

A Note on the Magic of Ceramics

  • PLEASE NOTE: There are no guarantees in pottery! While working in clay is meditative and gratifying, it is also beautifully unpredictable. Clay moves, shifts, and sometimes cracks as it dries or during the firing process—even for the most experienced potters. This is the "magic" of ceramics: learning to let go, accepting that we aren't always in control, and finding beauty in the process.
  • We invite you to enjoy the experience as the most important part of your visit; the final product is simply the icing on the cake!
