Create a modern textural masterpiece at Slip Studio in White Plains! Join us for our Circular Weaving Workshop, a contemporary twist on traditional fiber arts. Led by Hudson Valley artist Courtney Salerno, this 3-hour session teaches you how to weave "in the round" to create a stunning, one-of-a-kind wall hanging.

Circular weaving is a rhythmic, meditative process that results in beautiful radial designs. Whether you're new to fiber arts or looking to expand your weaving skills, this workshop offers a unique perspective on texture and form.

What You Will Learn:

  • Radial Warping: Master the unique technique of setting up your warp threads on a circular frame (embroidery hoop).

  • Circular Weaving Stitches: Learn how to navigate a round loom using specialized stitches that create spiraling textures and organic patterns.

  • Fiber Play: Experiment with a curated palette of yarns, roving, and fibers to build depth and dimension.

  • Finishing Techniques: Learn how to secure your work and prep your hoop for immediate hanging in your home.

Courtney Salerno is a teacher and fiber artist living in the Hudson Valley, NY.  She began weaving in 2016 and creates in her home studio on handmade frame looms.  She is mostly self-taught and experiments with a variety of fibers, including cotton rope, yarn, wool roving, hand-dyed ribbons, and recycled materials.  Courtney has shown several pieces in galleries throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.  She also teaches beginning frame loom weaving and weaving in the round classes in the tristate area.

  • Carve Your Own Jewelry Dish Pottery Workshop

    $75.00
    Carve your own jewelry dish out of brown stoneware clay.  This is a mindful and calming exercise of slowly carving clay out of a thick slab of clay and creating divets, crevaces and grooves for you to store your rings, jewelry, and trinkets.  Ariella will guide you through the whole process, creating a true slow-art experience.  Once you are done, Ariella will then monitor your pieces as they dry slowly, fire and glaze them in your choice of the colorful glazes.  Your beautiful dishes will be ready for pick-up 4-6 weeks later.

    The Process:

    *Compress, shape, and cut a thick slab of clay
    *Slowly carve your shapes, crevaces and divets into the clay
    *Work slowly and mindfully, carving away the clay
    *Smooth and texture your piece using tools in the studio
    *Add shapes, carving, and design- making it your own
    *All materials, clay, and tools are included 
    *This workshop will last 2-2 1/2 hours

    Unplug and create: a screen-free Sunday for the whole family. Bring the kids to the studio for a tactile, hands-on experience. Our Family Clay Date is designed for parents and children (ages 8+) to connect through the messy, joyful art of handbuilding.  Family Clay Date is a 2hr clay workshop for you and your kids to do together!  Tickets are sold separately, per person.
